Connecticut's aging population and high cost of living create significant challenges for low-income seniors seeking to age in place. With many residents living in older homes that require modifications for accessibility, the Accessible Housing Modifications for Seniors initiative aims to address urgent safety needs. By partnering with local contractors, the project will provide financial assistance for critical home modifications such as ramps and grab bars, enabling residents to maintain independence in their homes. Connecticut's dense population and aging housing stock require a focused approach to capacity building among local contractors and service providers. Unlike neighboring Massachusetts, Connecticut's smaller size allows for more targeted outreach and partnership development. The initiative will assess the capacity of local contractors to meet the demand for home modifications, identifying gaps in infrastructure and workforce.
