Grant Overview

Connecticut's aging affordable housing stock presents a unique challenge for energy efficiency upgrades. Many low-income residents struggle to afford high energy costs, which can lead to health and safety issues. Our Affordable Housing Energy Efficiency initiative aims to address this challenge by retrofitting affordable housing units with energy-efficient appliances and insulation. Who Should Apply in Connecticut? Non-profit organizations and government agencies with experience in affordable housing development are eligible to apply. Applicants must demonstrate their ability to partner with local contractors and provide resident training on maintaining energy-efficient upgrades. Connecticut's Energy Efficiency Opportunities Unlike neighboring states, Connecticut's high energy costs and cold winters make energy efficiency upgrades a critical need. Our initiative prioritizes areas with high concentrations of affordable housing, such as the Hartford region. By lowering utility costs and reducing the overall carbon footprint of the community, we aim to improve the health and well-being of low-income residents. Key outcomes will be measured by the reduction in energy bills and increased comfort levels in homes. Connecticut's Infrastructure Assets The state's existing infrastructure, including its network of community colleges and technical schools, provides a strong foundation for workforce development and training programs. Our initiative will leverage these assets to provide resident training on maintaining energy-efficient upgrades.
