Summary

An intensive, year-long initiative designed to cultivate the next generation of agricultural leaders within indigenous communities. Through a blend of traditional ecological knowledge and modern sustainable farming practices, the program will equip twenty native farmers with advanced skills in crop diversification, soil health management, value-added product development, and agri-business entrepreneurship. Participants will engage in hands-on training, mentorship by experienced indigenous farmers, and workshops.

This program emphasizes sustainable practices, building business strength, and preserving cultural foodways. Cohort members join periodic in-person gatherings, virtual learning sessions, and on-the-ground fieldwork. Topics commonly include business planning, conservation and land stewardship, marketing, traditional and ecological knowledge, and community food systems.

Eligible participants are required to be Indigenous/Native and U.S.-based, generally with limited prior farming or ranching experience (often categorized as “beginning”). Applicants usually need to be at least 18 years old and demonstrate access to land—whether owned, leased, or permitted. Citizenship or permanent residency in the U.S. is typically required.
